6 Tips for Cleansing Sensitive Skin the Right Way

Are you that one person in your group who seems to perpetually suffer from skin problems? Even the slightest change in temperature or a tweak in your skin care routine results in you suffering from a zillion skin reactions! From breakouts to allergies to inflammation, you’ve faced it all. When you complain about the skin woes you have to face, most people will tell you that you need to cleanse your face well. However, if you do have sensitive skin, even this simple ritual seems to pose a problem. Excessive washing, using a harsh cleansing agent and several other factors elevates your suffering instead of curbing it. So, in order to sidestep these skin woes, it’s important to keep the following tips in mind while cleansing your face:

Swear by tried and tested products:

Although this is a harsh fact to deal with, you have to accept it; not all products will work for you. So, stick to those that do. Don’t get swayed by the latest commercials or self-appointed brand ambassadors. Trust only the products that have worked in the past and stand by them.

Gentle is the way to go:

If you have sensitive skin, you should avoid harsh products like the plague. Opt for organic skin care products since they are made from natural ingredients and hence, are less likely to cause a reaction. Also, never use soap to wash your face as they contain several harsh chemicals.

Refrain from over-washing:

Although you need to wash your face to get rid of dirt, pollution and dust, it’s important to not overdo it. Washing your face too frequently will dry out your skin, causing your sebaceous glands to go into overdrive mode and secrete high amounts of sebum. This will result in frequent breakouts. So, wash your face after prolonged intervals and only when it really needs to be washed.

Moisturize:

Moisturizers are very important products for people with sensitive skin. Massage your skin with organic moisturizers after every wash. This will help hydrate your skin and prevent it from becoming dry and sensitive.

Avoid using hot water:

Since your skin already is sensitive, hot water will only heighten your skin’s sensitivity. Also, hot water tends to dry out skin and this is undesirable. So, opt for cool water instead. Lukewarm water is another option if you dislike washing with cool water.

Pat, don’t rub:

When you have sensitive skin, it becomes imperative to be gentle with your skin. Hence, avoid rubbing your skin vigorously while washing your face or while drying with a towel. Instead, use the palms of your hands to gently cleanse your face. Also, pat your skin dry instead of rubbing the towel against your skin.

Well, now that you know the dos and don’ts you must keep in mind while washing your face; make sure to make a habit of these. Doing so will help you enjoy problem-free, smooth skin all the time.
