Secrets to Silky Tresses: 3 Ways to Care for & Condition your Hair

As women, we spend a lot of time fussing over our hair. If we aren’t cleaning or styling it, we’re worried about cleaning or styling it! Also, with so much importance being given to having the perfect hairdo and hairstyle, we spend much time fixing our hair and subjecting it to damaging styling routines. Because of this, it becomes important to give your hair a little extra conditioning, over and above the regular shampoo and condition routine. This will rejuvenate and nourish your hair and prevent it from becoming dry, frizzy and brittle.

So, what can you do to give your hair that extra dose of nourishment? Well, look no further, for here are 3 things you can do strengthen and moisturize your hair.

Apply a homemade hair mask:

You needn’t visit a fancy salon to treat your hair to a deep conditioning mask. If you have the required ingredients, you can whip up one within the confines of your home! Here are3 inexpensive hair masks that can be made within minutes.

  1. Milk & Honey Hair Mask:

Mix a teaspoon of honey into a glass of milk and massage your hair with this sweet concoction. Wait for 15 minutes before washing your hair with lukewarm water.

  1. Banana & Almond Hair Mask:

Puree 3 bananas and add 3 drops of almond oil to this gooey mix. Apply the mixture on your hair and let it stay for about 25 minutes before washing it off with a mild shampoo.

  1. Strawberry, Egg & Olive Oil Hair Mask:

Mix together a cup of strawberries, 1 egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of olive oil and blend these ingredients into a thick pulp. Massage your tresses with this pulp for about 20 minutes, and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo.

Massage your hair with hair butters:

You’ve probably heard of body butters. But, did you know that there are butters for your hair too? These thick, sweet-smelling, buttery creams provide intense hydration and nourishment to your hair. Most hair butters are made from fruit; flower or seed extracts and so are safe for any type of hair. All you need to do is massage your tresses with hair butter at least once a week. You’ll notice a marked difference in the quality and texture of your hair with it becoming softer, glossier, smoother and stronger.

Treat your hair to frequent oil massages:

You might not like applying oil on your hair as it makes your tresses smell and feel sticky, but you must subject your tresses to this torturous routine as nothing can condition your hair better than hair oils. The natural oils that are best for your hair include Argan oil, Coconut oil, Grapeseed oil, Tea Tree oil and Amla (Indian Gooseberry) oil. Many reputed brands offer products that combine 2 or 3 of such exotic oils to give you a hair oil nutrient-packed conditioning.

Since each of these hair treatments are intensely conditioning, you needn’t resort to all at the same time. Alternate between the 3 treatments for best results. For example, massage your hair with hair butter one week and apply a hair mask the next week. However, it makes sense to oil massage your hair every week, even twice a week if possible.
