5 Smart Tips to Help You Choose the Right Anti-ageing Cream

With an anti-ageing cream commercial assaulting your senses every 10 minutes, it’s hard not to think about these creams all the time (especially if you’re in your late 30’s or early 40’s) Everywhere you go, people are obsessing over age. Well, if you think I’m trying to propagate the argument of inner beauty and other such things, you’re wrong.  I, personally, see no harm in wanting to look young, even if you’re a 60-year old grandma with aching joints. If it gives your confidence, morale and mood a boost, so be it!

So, if you’ve decided to jump on the anti-ageing cream bandwagon, it makes sense to select a product that’s right for you and gives you the results you expect. With countless anti-ageing creams flooding the market, it becomes necessary to put some thought into the buy. Here are a couple of pointers that will help you select a cream that suits your requirements and needs.

1. Understand your skin type:

Skin is generally of four types, normal, dry, oily and sensitive. Understand your skin type and choose a product that works well with it. This will help you derive maximum benefits from the product without having to worry about after-effects or sudden skin problems. People will sensitive skin need to be especially careful while selecting anti-ageing products. There are many products in the market that are safe for sensitive skin. So opt for one that mentions this.

2. Decide upon your requirement:

Ask yourself what you wish to get rid of. Is it only wrinkles and fine lines or do you want to banish spots and marks? Or do you want to get rid of all of this? Choose a product that deals with the respective problem/problems. There are anti-ageing cleansers, eye treatments, scrubs, masks and even makeup and all these products deal with different age-related problems. You also need to decide when you wish to apply the cream and accordingly select an anti-ageing day cream or night cream. There are serums available too that have a lighter feel on the face. So, have a clear understanding of your requirement as this will help you make a smart buy.

3. Right ingredients:

It is important that the product you select has the right ingredients. Look for a product that has AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or other exfoliating agents as this helps fix fine lines, blemishes, age spots and enlarged pores. Collagen or collagen-boosting ingredients too are essential as they help firm the skin. Moisturizing ingredients are another important element as they prevent the formation of wrinkles and lines. Most importantly, look for an anti-ageing product that is hypoallergenic (does not cause allergy) and non-comedogenic (does not cause acne)

4. Keep a check on your expectations:

Remember, it’s an anti-ageing cream and not Dumbledore’s magic wand. Don’t believe claims that promise to make you young overnight! Along with using anti-ageing products, you also need to follow a healthy lifestyle. So, keep a watch on your diet, drink lots of water and exercise regularly. Within 3 – 4 weeks, with these combined efforts, you will start noticing a difference in your skin. Be regular in your skincare routine and you will realize that these anti-ageing creams have indeed made a modest difference to your face.

5. Keep in mind your budget:

It’s not true that expensive products give you better results. There are products in various price ranges and many of them do a good job. So, make a note of all the anti-ageing products available, their prices, ingredients and features. Then check online reviews and product reviews on other consumer forums to know which cream is doing well. After you’ve made a thorough study, finalize on one product, and remember to give the product some time to act on your skin before you choose to diss it or shout from the rooftops that it’s the magic potion you’ve been waiting for!
